Weird pregnancy symptoms
I didn't get the usual morning sickness, and I don't have leg cramps, swelling and backaches - yet... but I did seem to get some unusual symptoms that you don't hear about as much. Rest assured, all of these are normal, according to the doctor.
Insomnia - I can't seem to sleep at night. In the first trimester, I spent most of the night sneezing and blowing my nose due to excessive mucus production. How lovely! But now that's over and I just toss and turn at night instead, not particularly bothered but definitely wide awake. Even after getting a great new pillow to help me sleep on my side.
The doctor said it's called "vigilant sleeping" and it means my body is preparing for looking after the baby at night. But even weirder than not sleeping is that I have so much energy during the day! Well, by early evening I start to crash, but otherwise I'm bouncing off the walls and doing all the recommended exercises, too. Most days, that is.
Drooling - Another rarely publicized symptom of pregnancy is increased saliva production. About 4 times a day I choke on my own saliva! It's a little embarassing to explain when people start asking if you need water or what you're choking on. In the first trimester I found I was drooling all the time.
Darker pigments - My freckles are darker, and my hair has gotten redder!
Breathless - Right from day one I've become of breath easily when I have to say more than 3 sentences in a row. Very early on before we told anyone, I attended a professional luncheon and had to stand up to introduce myself to the group. While talking, I started taking breaths as if I had just come in from running a marathon! It happens on the phone with clients all the time - I have to make sure I don't talk too much at once. It's amazing the changes that happen even before you start to show outward signs of pregnancy.
Forgetfulness - I can't seem to keep my wits about me. I'm usually very organized and keep a running list of things I have to do, but lately a lot of things seem to be slipping. The worst is when I discovered last night that I had forgotten to make payments on our 0% financing for our home theater system - now I have to go through their dispute system to try to get that promotion back and avoid all the interest charges! Not so amusing! But at least 3 times a day I find myself in a room of the house wondering what I went there to do. But the funny thing is I don't mind that much. I think being pregnant changes your perspective automatically so that things that were once top of the list just aren't as important anymore.
That's all I can think of for now. Probably forgetting a few...
